Welcome

  Eldon Nygaard wrote South Dakota's Farm Winery Act in 1996. Together with his wife, Sherry, son, Leif, and daughter, Jeanette, they started the first winery in South Dakota by establishing Valiant Vineyards, South Dakota Bonded Winery Number One. Valiant Vineyards Winery, located on the Vermillion River and overlooking the Missouri River is ideally situated close to downtown Vermillion, home of the University of South Dakota. When you visit, you are invited to taste our wines, meander through the Tasting Room, and meet our staff.

Our tasting room is open:

Summer May through December, Sunday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 to 6 p.m.

Winter January through April Thursday, Friday & Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday and at other times by appointment.

When you cannot visit, we invite you to shop in our online store, where you can conveniently order wine for direct shipment to your home.

  Valiant Vineyards' South Dakota-made Gift Shop, Winery and Tasting Room are open in Summer May through December, Sunday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 a.m to 6 p.m.

Winter January through April, we are open Thursday, Friday & Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday and at other times by appointment. *There is no cost for wine tasting and includes your choice of three different wines. Winery tours and tastings are conducted according to our summer and winter schedules, holidays excepted by appointment only. Tours include a tour of our winemaking facility, cask room and bottling area with an expert guide and conclude with a wine tasting. Tours last approximately 30 minutes and are by appointment only. Guests younger than 21 are restricted from wine tasting. Please bring a driver's license or other proper government suppied identification. *Private and group tours and tastings are available by request and must be pre-arranged.

Delivery

All wine is shipped via UPS and reaches the destination within 10 business days. UPS will check the ID of the intended recipient and cannot leave the package at the door. We recommend delivering to a business address to avoid missed deliveries.

Guest Policies

Children, with adult supervision, are always welcome at Valiant Vineyards Winery, with the stipulation that all guests at the Winery be allowed to have a relaxing, restful and undisturbed stay. Two night minimum stay on USD Graduation Weekends and D-Days Weekends.

Room rates are based on double occupancy, for each additional person there is a reasonable per night surcharge, which covers breakfast and other costs. Children 10 years of age stay free; 11 years and older are $15 per night.

No pets allowed.
Room reservations are guaranteed with a credit card.
Special guest packages are offered year around.
Winery gift certificates are available.
Check-in after 2:00 p.m.; Check-out is 11:00 a.m.
Breakfast is served between 8 am & 10 am

Private Dining at Valiant Vineyards

 

Valiant Vineyard Winery's restaurant hosts private luncheons and dinners for 10-200 people any day of the week with advance notice. Please see our Banquet Menu. We have complete banquet facilities set in a warm and cozy atmosphere. Whether it's a business meeting, awards dinner, working lunch, after-hours get together, family reunion, anniversary, birthday, graduation, whatever the occasion, our experienced staff will help you create a memorable event for up to 200 people.

Weddings, Dances and Social Events

All alcoholic beverages must be purchased from and served by winery staff. All catering is provided by the winery, all menus should be finalized one month prior to your event. A guaranteed head count is required 72 hours in advance of the banquet or event. When all food and non-alcoholic beverage is purchased through Valiant Vineyards, a minimum of $10.00 per person is required. If banquet food sales reach $2,000.00, the room charge will be waived.

Guarantees

Buffalo Run will prepare for 5% over the guaranteed number. You are required to pay 100% of your guarantee, or the actual number of guests served, whichever is greater. Should your actual attendance exceed the guaranteed number, every effort will be made to properly serve your guests. However, we may not be able to serve the same menu.
Gratuities and Taxes
*All prices are subject to a 20% service charge and 4% sales tax.

Deposits

A deposit is required to confirm your banquet room (prices listed above.) The deposit is non-refundable if the confirmed date is canceled within 90 days of the event. Any damages to the winery property that occur during your event will be subtracted from the deposit. The remainder of the deposit will be applied to your food and beverage bill.

Billing

Room fees must be paid in advance of your event. All banquet charges less any applicable deposit must be paid on or before the day of the event . Following your banquet, you will be billed for all incidental expenses incurred.

*Day Room charges do not apply to dinner and lunch banquets catered by the Valiant Vineyards when the room is used for the purposes of banquets only, longer use of the room may result in an additional charge.

Banquet and Meeting Policies

  • All food and beverage must be purchased from the Winery and may not be taken from the banquet areas.
  • Buffets are served for 45 minutes after set start time.
  • Winery is not responsible for theft or loss of articles in banquet room.
  • Patrons are responsible for any Winery damage done by their guest.
  • Nothing may be attached to ceilings, walls or doors without first consulting management.
  • All decorations and equipment brought in must be promptly removed after function.
  • Amplifiers are not permitted to be brought in unless the function is utilizing the entire Tasting Room.
  • Music with inappropriate lyrics will not be permitted.
  • A deposit and a signed banquet event order must be received before your function is confirmed.
  • Deposits are non-refundable.
  • Full payment is due the night of the function.
  • All wedding receptions must be paid in full the day of the reception.
  • We assign banquet rooms based on the number of people anticipated and guaranteed.
  • A guaranteed count of guests must be received two full business days prior to the function.
  • All charges will be based upon the guaranteed number, or the actual number of people served - whichever is greater. If a guaranteed number is not received, the original estimated count will be considered the guarantee.
  • The Winery will be prepared to seat and serve 5% above your guarantee.
  • Wedding dances must have a food guarantee of $2000 or more.
  • 20% Service charge and 7% state sales tax are applicable to all items.
